What is a soy candle?
A soy candle is made from soybean wax. The bean grows inside a waxy protective cover which falls off during harvest. The wax requires minimal processing, just a cleaning to make it candle ready. The waxy shells are melted and form a mostly solid foundation for candles. Wax of soybeans is a non-toxic, naturally-occurring, biodegradable, and a renewable, sustainable resource. A 100% soy candle burns cleaner, cooler, slower, and more evenly than traditional petroleum-based and/or paraffin-based wax candles.
What should you know about burning soy candles?
Soy wax has a memory, if you do not burn your highly scented soy candles correctly the first time they are lit, they may never burn correctly during the remaining lifetime of the candle. Always light your soy candle when you have the time to allow it to completely burn across the top the first time. Normally, this takes 3-4 hours, because the "melt pool" must reach completely across the top of the entire container. The beautiful thing about soy wax candles when they are cared for, is they burn cleanly without smoking, or giving off candle soot. Plus, they burn slow, giving you roughly 50% more life than a paraffin candle, while giving off a good high quality scent throw.
Where should I burn my soy candle?
It is best to burn your soy candle on a stable, protected, hard surface away from drafts and material that could catch fire. Keep away from children and pets. Never leave a candle unattended.
What are wax melts, and how are they used?
Our Wax melts contain the same potent, long-lasting scents as our traditional candles. Since there is no wick, you can simply warm the wax in a candle warmer until the scent is no longer as strong as you'd like, and then remove the wax and replace it with fresh wax melts. You can use an electric candle warmer or one that uses tea lights to warm the wax. Never add water or oil to the wax melts, and remember to choose unscented tea lights to avoid confusing scents.
Do your candles and melts smell good?
Yes, our soy candles and melts are drenched in the maximum amount of fragrance that our soy wax will allow. You may find one scent to be stronger than another, but this is due to the nature of that particular scent and not the strength of the fragrance oil itself. Soy candles and melts do require approximately 7 days to 2 weeks to cure for best scent throw while burning.
Do your soy candles and melts come in different colors?
Simple Life candles and melts are uncolored. This is to keep our candles and melts as natural as possible. If you would like a colored candle let us know when you place an order. This will mean a new candle poured just for you so it may add to the shipping time.
Why does my soy candle look frosty? Is it drying out?
No, your candle is not drying out. Frosting is a natural characteristic of soy, and is part of the soy experience! It is not a flaw, and it is strictly unique to pure soy candles. Often times it is called the "bloom." Actually, many customers are concerned if there is not frosting on their soy candles. It is a way that a customer can tell if their candle is really made with pure, all-natural soy wax. Frosting does not effect the scent throw or the burning properties of the candle. You can safely burn a candle with a bloom without worry.
What if I spill my soy candle? How can I clean it up?
Soy wax spills can easily be cleaned up with just hot soapy water.
